Psychiatry and Medication Management

What does a psychiatrist do?

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in mental health. Psychiatric care may involve evaluation, diagnosis, medication-related decisions, and discussion of other treatment options when appropriate.
Psychiatry and therapy are different types of mental health care. Our practice provides psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and interventional psychiatry services. When appropriate, we may coordinate care with psychologists and other clinicians involved in a patient’s treatment.
Not necessarily. Recommendations depend on your individual evaluation, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment history, medical background, and goals.
Patients may discuss concerns such as depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, schizophrenia spectrum disorders, alcohol use disorder, women’s mental health concerns, and behavioral concerns associated with autism spectrum disorder.

GeneSight testing may support medication-related decision-making for some patients. It is not required for every patient and does not replace a psychiatric evaluation or clinical judgment.

When appropriate, we may coordinate with primary care physicians, neurologists, psychologists, and other involved clinicians.

BrainsWay Deep TMS

What is BrainsWay Deep TMS?

BrainsWay Deep TMS is a noninvasive outpatient treatment option that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate targeted areas of the brain. It does not require anesthesia.
Yes. We offer BrainsWay Deep TMS as part of our interventional psychiatry services.
BrainsWay Deep TMS is FDA-cleared as an adjunct treatment option for eligible adults with OCD. A psychiatric evaluation can help determine whether it may be appropriate for you.
Deep TMS may be considered for eligible adults with major depressive disorder when prior antidepressant medication treatment has not provided satisfactory improvement during the current depressive episode.
Not as a general treatment for all anxiety disorders. At Synergy NeuroPsychiatry, Deep TMS may be considered for eligible adults with major depressive disorder who also experience anxiety symptoms.
No. Deep TMS does not require anesthesia and is provided in an outpatient setting.
A psychiatric evaluation can help clarify whether Deep TMS may fit your diagnosis, symptoms, treatment history, medical background, and safety considerations.

SPRAVATO®

What is SPRAVATO®?

SPRAVATO® is an FDA-approved esketamine nasal spray that may be considered for eligible adults with treatment-resistant depression.
No. SPRAVATO® is a distinct FDA-approved esketamine nasal spray. Ketamine is FDA-approved as an anesthetic, while psychiatric uses of ketamine are off-label.
SPRAVATO® may be considered for adults with treatment-resistant depression after a careful psychiatric evaluation. The right approach depends on diagnosis, symptoms, treatment history, medical background, and safety considerations.
No. SPRAVATO® is self-administered under direct healthcare-provider supervision in a certified healthcare setting and is not dispensed for home use.
No. Patients should not drive, operate machinery, or take part in activities requiring full alertness until the next day after a restful sleep.
