At Synergy NeuroPsychiatry, we provide thoughtful, physician-led psychiatric care for adolescents age 15+, adults, and elderly patients 65+ in Portage, Kalamazoo, and nearby communities.
Mental health concerns can be difficult to sort through, especially when symptoms overlap, prior treatment has not provided enough support, or daily life feels harder to manage than it should. We take time to understand the full picture, then help you explore care options with clarity, respect, and clinical guidance.
There is no single path through depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma symptoms, attention concerns, mood changes, or other psychiatric challenges. Your history, current symptoms, medical background, treatment experience, daily functioning, and goals all matter.
At Synergy NeuroPsychiatry, we look beyond a single diagnosis or symptom. We consider what you have already tried, what is affecting your life today, and what kind of support may be appropriate next.
When helpful, we coordinate with other clinicians involved in your care, including primary care physicians, neurologists, and psychologists. Our role is to help patients and families understand their options without pressure and make informed decisions about treatment.
Synergy NeuroPsychiatry is led by Mauli Verma, MD, a Board-Certified Psychiatrist with experience in inpatient, community outpatient, and private-practice settings.
Dr. Verma works with patients across a wide range of psychiatric concerns, including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, PTSD, schizophrenia spectrum disorders, alcohol use disorder, women’s mental health concerns, and behavioral concerns associated with autism spectrum disorder.
She has a particular clinical interest in obsessive-compulsive disorder, obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders (such as skin-picking and hair-pulling), treatment-resistant mood disorders, and mood disorders co-morbid with anxiety. Her approach is grounded in careful evaluation, individualized treatment planning, and attention to the ways psychiatric symptoms may overlap with medical, neurological, and functional concerns.
Mental health symptoms do not always fit neatly into one category. Depression may affect sleep, concentration, energy, and motivation. Anxiety may affect attention, decision-making, and daily functioning. Trauma symptoms, intrusive thoughts, mood changes, and medical concerns may also overlap.
We use a neuropsychiatric perspective to consider how mood, behavior, cognition, functioning, treatment history, and medical context may connect. For patients whose symptoms feel persistent, layered, or difficult to clarify, a careful psychiatric evaluation can help create a clearer path forward.
Patients deserve clear explanations, thoughtful recommendations, and care that respects their pace.
We aim to make treatment conversations easier to understand. We explain why a particular evaluation, medication approach, or advanced outpatient option may be considered. We also make space for questions, concerns, and the practical realities that can shape mental health care.
Our goal is not to rush patients toward a specific treatment. It is to help each person better understand what may be happening and what options may fit.
Our office is located at 2176 E. Centre Ave in Portage, Michigan. We welcome new patients from Kalamazoo and nearby communities.
